In addition to the main symptoms, sufferers may also experience additional problem, such as: A lack of Energy, bladder problems (urgency to urinate, difficulty fully emptying bladder), backache, feeling sick, pain during sex, to name a few.
Because symptoms vary between individuals (affecting some more severely than others) and can last from a few days to a few months at a time, they can have a significant impact and deep psychological affect on the sufferers day-to-day life. As a result, it's not uncommon for sufferers to experience feelings of Anxiety and Depression. This doesn't mean that IBS is 'All In The Mind', anxiety can stimulate chemical changes that interfere with the normal working of the digestive system and produce very real symptoms for the sufferer.
Some experts think sufferers may be oversensitive to nerve signals from the digestive system and exacerbating what would be barely noticeable to a non-sufferer.
It is believed that as many as 20% of the population will suffer from IBS at some point in their life, usually developing, for the first time, between the ages of 20 to 30 and affecting about twice as many women as it does men.
With such a wide variety of symptoms it makes sense to use a process that not only seeks to discover what lies beneath the triggers, but one which wants to understand, not just how and when the individual is affected, but one that wants to know 'why', why you, the individual, suffers from IBS. A treatment that identifies, understands and ultimately corrects the unique root cause of the problem and that's just what Curative Hypnotherapy sets out to do.
